Profiling & Planning Consultations
Our Profiling & Planning Consultation is the first step in understanding your child’s language and/or literacy needs. These sessions are designed to give us a clear, efficient snapshot of your child’s learning profile, so we can make informed recommendations about next steps without unnecessary testing.

What does the session involve?
Profiling & Planning Consultations are up to 90 minutes in length and are made up of two key parts:

Detailed discussion and background information
The therapist will spend time with you discussing your concerns and your child’s:
-
Communication, language, literacy, or learning difficulties
-
Developmental history
-
Medical and educational background
-
Family history (where relevant)
-
Current supports and school context

We will also review any relevant information you bring along, such as:
-
School work samples
-
Reports from teachers or other professionals
-
Previous assessment reports

Targeted screening assessments
Your child will then complete a series of short, targeted assessments. These tasks are carefully selected to provide a fast yet accurate snapshot of your child’s language and/or literacy skills.

These screening assessments help us:
-
Identify strengths and areas of difficulty
-
Highlight areas that may require further investigation
-
Guide decisions about assessment and intervention planning
Feedback and next steps
You will receive verbal feedback during the session, along with a clear plan for moving forward.
Depending on your child’s profile, next steps may include:
-
Further targeted assessment in specific areas
-
Commencing therapy without additional assessment
-
Home and school strategies with a planned review
-
Referral to another specialist where appropriate
Our aim is to ensure families leave the session with clarity, direction, and a shared understanding of what support (if any) is needed.
Important information
The speech pathologist completing the Profiling & Planning Consultation may not be the same therapist who provides ongoing intervention, should therapy be recommended. This allows us to match children with the clinician best suited to their individual needs and availability.
If you would like to book a Profiling & Planning Consultation or have questions about whether this service is appropriate for your child, please contact our clinic and our team will be happy to assist.
